Deskzilla 1.2 Beta Is Available
March 22, 2006
Deskzilla 1.2 Beta 1 is now available for download. New Deskzilla version, to be released in the end of March, has a number of new features and a few bug fixes. Detailed information about issues closed with the release of Deskzilla 1.2 may be found in our issue database at bugs.deskzilla.com.
New major features in Deskzilla 1.2:
- Bug collections
A bug collection is like a folder or a label for bugs. You can add a bug to a collection and remove it later. By default there's only one collection - "Favorites", but it's possible to create as many as needed. - Quick search within a scope (#202)
This feature allows to search for text within currently selected queries. It also makes possible to define and quickly select "scopes" - a collection of queries to search within. - Quick search understands bug URLs
You can paste a bugzilla bug's URL into the quick search box and search for this bug even if no connection is configured! Deskzilla will create a connection with default settings and fetch the bug record. - Multiple selection in bugs table and bulk workflow actions
It's now possible to select several bugs in the bugs table. A workflow action will be applied to all bugs that have been selected. Some Deskzilla actions are also able to execute upon a number of bugs (for example, update and commit). - Support for shared install (#140)
Starting with Deskzilla 1.2, the workplace - a directory with local cache, configuration, logs and other user files - is stored separately from Deskzilla distribution. That allows to share Deskzilla installation, and run it without write access to Deskzilla install directory. - Search within comments in query builder (#201)
It's now possible to build a query that will search for a text in bug comments. - Sorted Distribution Elements (#204)
Elements in distribution are now sorted according to their order in Bugzilla. - Customized field names (#61)
Deskzilla now allows to redefine the names of fields to match customized field names in your Bugzilla. For instructions, please visit the corresponding knowledge base article. - Automatic backup of config.xml (#198)
File "config.xml" contains all queries, connection settings and other stuff usually important for the user. Prior to Deskzilla 1.2, a computer crash would probably have caused a corruption of config file. Starting with version 1.2, Deskzilla periodically makes backup copies of config.xml (stored in "backup" directory under user workspace), so in case of a crash the user shall be able to restore a previously saved configuration. - Support for floating licenses
Deskzilla is now able to work with floating or site licenses. We'll start offering them at our web site soon after the release.
Important fixes:
Everyone is welcome to download and try the new version! If you have evaluated a previous Deskzilla version already, you can request another evaluation license key. As usual, any feedback on the new Deskzilla is highly appreciated.
